THE Lymm and District Round Table have donated £500 to the Pakistan Flood Appeal.
The Table – itself a registered charity which typically raises funds for local causes – decided to break from tradition and make the donation in response to the floods which have killed more than 1,700 people and affected a further 17m.
The UK has committed £64m in response to the disaster which began in August and the British public have donated more than £47m.
Chairman Dave Openshaw said: “Although we raise a lot of money for the local community there are times when the need is so great that we feel we should help out, wherever they are.
“So many people have been affected – including lots of children – and donating £500 to the emergency appeal for aid is the least we could do.”
